Hello everyone!

Im searching for a [b:b8ef7bae4f]steering box and shaft (all components)[/b:b8ef7bae4f] for an [b:b8ef7bae4f]International 244 tractor.
[/b:b8ef7bae4f]
Ive called countless places and cant seem to find one This tractor is on one of my trailers and I cant move it until I find these parts. Its been a pain of a search.

Does anyone know of where I could find one or have any leads in a direction I could take to hawk one down?

Im located near Athens, GA.

Thanks in advance for all the help anyone can give!!

Call 270-247 2219 if any one in Kentucky or Tennessee has one he will know IH tractor guy for
years.

Hwag welcome to YT! Just in case you are not aware of
this you can look up part numbers for you tractor at
the CHNI online parts book. At one time IH started to
drop part numbers that were no longer available, so
many parts in this diagram are not available. If you are
really set on getting the part numbers Post back and I
can direct you how to find an alternate parts site that
has many more of the part numbers in it. It would be
ideal if there was a a salvage yard that had everything
you need. But I have found if you have the part
number. You stand a better chance if have the part
numbers and web search that. Here a are some notes
on the use of the CNHI online parts book. A redo of the
CNHI sight in early 2022 it has become quite a bit
harder to navigate in. Here are some tips on using the
site if you are viewing on a cell phone. The following
does not apply to viewing on a PC. Since the CNHI
parts site was reconfigured in early 2022 I have found
that when viewing on my iPhone expanding the
diagram in the box is much clearer. This is the
..preview.. box you see before you go into the actual
subsection that gives the diagram and the parts list.
Also holding your phone side ways lets you see more
of the site navigation links at the top by the ..Home..
button. I do not know if this applies to Android phones.

I'm curious as to how you got it on the trailer?

I did attempt to search the part numbers; however, maybe I can search some other parts and hopefully find a whole setup. Its showing to be difficult to piece it together as well.

Thanks for the reply!

Lol. The steering box was hanging on for dear life. Got it halfway up the ramps but not completely straight when the gears completely stripped. Turns out a seal or something was bad and water had been leaking into the box which lead to it rusting out. Ended up using the clutch to limp it a bit farther and then used a come along to get it the rest of the way turning it with a floor jack.

It was pretty sketchy to be honest. I could probably do the same process getting it off but the way its sitting itll be a headache getting it lined up on the ramps and not having steering backing down.

If I cant find a box here soon Im going to have no choice but to do it. I need the trailer bad lol

I also need to drain the tank and replace some filters to get it running right again unfortunately. Diesel is gelled and I would have to connect all the wiring to get it cranked. This was originally my dads tractor for use at the hunting camp and its sat for a little while since he passed away a month or so after this all happened.

Havent had time with his health situation to fool with it but now Im on the hunt learning about it to try and get it top notch again.

It's not surprising that you are having such a hard time finding parts. The tractor is an orphan. Not many were made, and with so few made, not many are in salvage yards, and the ones that are in salvage yards have already been stripped of most of their usable parts. They were made back in the early-mid 80's so any stocks of parts are long gone.

You may need to consider converting the tractor to a full hydraulic ram setup. These folks might be able to help you out:

Dang. That aint good news.

Ill definitely look into that then. Ill shoot them a call and see if its possible. I appreciate the help. Any lead is great.

(quoted from post at 09:59:55 05/06/22) We used a long pry bar between the tire and the knee to steer a dead Farmall 656, which is a much larger tractor, to get it on and off the trailer. It worked well.

Cautiously and carefully done that is similar to what I was thinking could be done.

I'd roll it back on the trailer by pushing or pulling it carefully while using a winch to slowly let it down the ramps.

Probably a four person job, two pushing on the rear wheels if possible, one operating the winch and one steering with the bar.

Again, very carefully.

Assuming of course help is available.

I would look for a substitute that I could adapt. Some other Japanese or Chinese tractor may
use steering gears close enough to use.
