I dropped the clutch on my gas MF 65 while in 2nd gear on an icy hill and..,.something broke in the drive train resulting in a loud knocking. The tractor was only able to move very slowly back to the barn. Knocking starts as soon as the tractor is turned over.
Can anyone suggest what has broken in this case? I have removed the steering block as a first step and a first glance in the gearbox has not revealed anything broken there. The next move would be to separate the transmission from the engine but I'm not sure where to look for the problem. It seems that because the knocking occurs before the gears are engaged it may be on the engine side. I would be thankful for any insight other users might provide.
Heavy sigh.
