LACQUER THINNER

Anyone hear to put lacquer thinner in transmission the swell seals to help or stop seal leaking?

I've heard of it, never tried.

My guess it would evaporate before doing much of anything but turning loose a bunch of sediment.

I would suggest servicing the filter and fluid and putting in some Lucas transmission conditioner.

It is a serious solvent, and as Steve indicates, might stir up way more problems than leaky seals. Bearing analysis at the seal, coupled with
new seals and speed sleeves when needed are real answers. Jim

I would NOT do it. It's quite likely that the lacquer thinner will ruin all the seals and make the problem worse.

Lacquer thinner will attack and melt the bonding cement holding the clutch facings onto the plates. The transmission guy I use told me that the idea to use lacquer thinner made the rounds a few years ago,and it made him pretty good money. He repaired dozens of transmissions that had the fiber faces come unglued, all from people putting lacquer thinner in the transmission.

My tranny guy told me to try an addative when I asked for a tranny flush and filter. They said lots of transmissions fail after that. So after 1 drain and refill at 120k I'm now at 194k and putting in an additive because of sometimes finiky shifts.
