On a sickle bar mower, on the last mower guard that the mow board
attaches to there is a replaceable serrated cutter section. This the
part that is below the sickle sections but is on the very end. The
regular mower guards have a serrated part mounted in them that
create the other half of the scissor or cutting action. The end mower
guard (outer shoe)that the mow board mounts to has a replaceable
serrated part or at least on this IH mower or Kosch mower it does.
Tried to look it up to buy one. Have three other outer shoes that has
that serrated part either broken or missing.
So what is it called?
 
Ledger plate X4. Atleast thats what I call them.

There's most likely an opposite one on the inside shoe. It's not near as important as the outside one. The inside one doesn't really cut anything unless its fed into uncut grass. Most operators (including myself) drive jogged out atleast a sickle section to leave room for guidance error, and reduce problems.

On my mower, these are riveted on with special rivets, hard to get at, and are a b!t(h to replace. I take my shoes off, and take them to town, and have my welder guy put the new ledger plates in. I'm not sure how he does it, but does a much better job than me doing it myself. Must have an easier way too. He doesn't charge much to do it. And he adds a little tack weld to ensure they don't come off, and are held on by more than just the rivets.

If ordering these, especially just the outer, make sure you specify the outer, not the inner. On my mower, they are different if you don't buy as a pair.
 
The old Ford 515 mowers had what they called Cut Free gaurds. Instead of being pointed, the had a regular serrated section. The instruction book says you put one or more of these on the outer end of the sickle bar for extremely dense grass or when mowing over old cuttings that haven't been raked up.
