I noticed a sharp spot on a tooth on Monday. You know That ain't good.
Made an appointment and got in this morning.
An old filling had deteriorated so he drilled it out and put a new one in.
That filling had to be 25 or 30 years old.
Wish I could remember what I paid that time.
This place gives you 5% off if you pay when you leave. So I did.
Cost me $426.
Bet it was cheaper last time.
Anyone here have implants?
The tooth kind.
I wonder how people like them.

And I was doing some welding and ripped off part of the nail on my right middle finger about an hour after I got back from the dentist. Not as much to report on that however.
That was just to fluff up the title of the post a little.
I did thank the dentists I can still chew off the busted nail and keep working.

Monday morning I was eating some potato chips. I noticed a small pain that quickly went away. Then there was something hard between my teeth. I knew immediately what it was. A tooth with a crown had broken off. I go to an oral surgeon in October and then I will get a partial or an implant.
A tad more than your $426

I have 3-4 implants. They work great for me. Just takes a while to
finish them as they have wait for the new root to get attached.
No problems.

Seems everyone has fillings. And they all seem to fail. A hunter said to me you know how some food sticks to your fillings? I said no dont have any. He wouldnt believe me until I opened my mouth for him to look. Am I the only one who has no fillings?

I broke a tooth off in phases, one piece every few months until only the root was left. Then it started to get infected. I had it pulled, and went without for a few years. Finally my dentist convinced me I needed to fix that, so we did an implant and a crown on it. It was traumatic to my wallet, but worked out really well. Sounds like a torqued head bolt when you tap on it. Probably still be there when all the rest of them break off and fall out, but right now they are all hale and hearty, at 72!

My first Tooth filling was 1960.

Now 16 Fillings have been replaced with 16 Crowns.....

The fillings were so large in area, they had nothing to hold on to....

Dentist turned each tooth into an Ice Pick, then added a crown....

I had my name on the CALL ME IF NO ONE ELSE WILL TAKE THE DIRTY BREAK DOWNS

$10,000.00 $$$$'s later.. I can devour the bone from a T-BONE.

My wife had a Dental Implant last year. Total success....:) Bloody Fly in Surgeon.. $3,600.00 Canadian $$$'s

Bob...

Sounds like you are good for another 30 years. When I was younger mom would take me to the dentist. Dentist would say, Stanley needs filling, Mom would say ok. I would say oh no to myself. In the 50's I don't know if any injections to relieve the pain were available or not. All I know is the dentist would say open wide, and start drilling. I think that would be considered child abuse today. Stan

My mother had all of what was left of her teeth pulled while she was working for a dentist when in her mid twenties. I remember very clearly the 50 RPM belt drive drill from when I was a kid, and yes, I remember the use of Novacaine. I have had numerous fillings, crowns and bridges but the underlying teeth would often disintegrate under the crown. I still have all of my fronts and maybe 1/3 of the rest, and one implant. the implant is just over a year and a half old and is working well.

need I say more?

I have two implants. First was to replace a crowned tooth that broke off just below the gum line. Second was to replace a 25 year old bridge, lost the anchor tooth so had the implant installed where the bridge was. Lengthy process, extraction/healing about 5/6 weeks, install stud/torque/healing another 5/6 weeks, mold/3D print/fit tooth. Spendy but cheaper than a new bridge and longer lasting than a crown. I got two other estimates at these dental chains that advertise implants in 2/3 weeks, but after a check with the better business bureau I decided to go with my regular dentist. Good luck!

Never had good teeth, wayward youth finished them off, 60 years later I said enough is enough, cost twice what my first house did, but pain free for the first time in many years! Thats what the mounts for full mouth implants looks like. Talking about some high dollar head bolts!

OH MAN!
That hurts looking at that photo.
My first dentist had a setup like that.
I could see his office from the chair and he would go sit at his desk every little bit and pull a bottle out of a drawer and take a drink.
I think I was the one that needed the drink.

In 1976 I got my first crown. That tooth was done for in about 10 more years. It was replaced by a bridge. About 4 years ago one of the 2 teeth holding the bridge failed. In the mean time with no tooth in the one spot the gum had collapsed.
It took a year of surgeries and bone graft and other repairs to fix it. 2 implants and everything else cost $10,000. And thats after my dental insurance paid about $3000.

I still have all my teeth, crowns on most of the back ones, also my share of fillings during the 50's. Believe it or not, I had braces on my top teeth in the late 50's for a couple of years when I was in Junior High .... it wasn't a cool or trendy thing then like it is now. My dad paid $200 to get that done ..... ha, ask me how I know and will never forget the specific amount.

I have several fillings from when I was child. The dentist drilled too big of holes and now my molars are cracking. Everyone one of those fillings has turned into a $1200 crown - I am up to 7 now.

I was talking to mom about them and how much it was running me and she told me that dentist was arrested and sent to prison for selling drugs.

I just had 2 implants this past spring--only problem there was a slight misalignment between the implants in my lower jaw and my original teeth in my upper jaw---but it seems to have aligned itself now

Oh no. I remember that well. Each arm had this little thin belt running to the next arm. It had a high pitch sound. I think it was operated by a foot pedal. Never again. Stan
