You post many pics of British Iron so maybe you can help me? I posted under Stationary Engines but not getting many replies.

I'm looking at an International M 6 hp. Owner wants me to make the first offer. I want to be fair but I have no idea what value it has. Not running. Free to turn. No obvious cracks. Has a pike-o-bits I'm told is a mill of some sort. Online I'm finding 400-1200 and Richard G bought a FM at auction in the middle of that range.

Since you're not getting many replies here, have xou tried asking on a site called Smokstak in the stationary engines section? Lots of info on that site for the oldest and lesser known machines that you don't hear about here.

i would post a picture of the engine then a person has a better idea on value. a 6 h. p. would be in the 1K range and up, quite easily if all complete and running. not running all depends what it is like. i have the 3 h. p. in nice original condition running good.

Its complete but non Running, but its an early one, so offer him 500.oo. As you say, he wants you to make the first offer, so consider that the opening salvo. He'll either take it or make you a counter offer. Its a nice (heavy!) size, but it is a very common engine, and it is throttle governed, not a more popular ''Hit & Miss'' type so I wouldnt go over 800.oo on it- if it ran.

Like most old iron, prices seem to be way down these days- especially if youre selling- and the opposite if youre buying...

Here are more pics. Previously it kept bombing out and by the time I got them on, I was in the garden tractor section.

Anyway, here they are.

dont forget ,... it has the crank! thats 100.00 right there. most are lost should have posted the serial number also. at the top. and the rear of head. that is quite easily 700-1k range. and that is not overpaying.

plus you need to check the governor sleeve to make sure its not worn too thin. i had to make a new on for mine on a lathe. too thin and they will break. thats on the other side with the drive pully on the inside .
