Ok so I have a David Brown 3800 and it runs but when the throttle even goes down a little it races up and if I don't turn it off it will prolly blow. I think the governor is not working right when I start moving the tractor their is a pun on the governor that comes up only when I start driving it a but it won't come up at idle if anyone as any info that could help me please let me know.

Welcome Dante24!

The uncontrolled RPM is definitely a governor problem.

If it got like this on its own, look for a mechanical failure of the governor
itself. If this happened after working on the carburetor or any throttle
linkage it could be an adjustment problem, or a link was improperly
installed.

A little governor theory of operation, when you call for an increase in RPM,
you are applying tension to the governor spring, which pulls the throttle
open.

As the engine speed increases, the spinning weights inside the governor try
to over ride the spring and push the throttle closed. It's a simple balancing
act between the 2 forces.

I can't give you specific information on that tractor, but if you can find a
shop manual, it will be a very wise investment.

Governor parts for the DB gas engines are basically non-existent. Anything you need will have to be made or repaired. Very low production numbers, and over 50 years old.

Not and be able to use/run the tractor in any practical way. The governor lets you set an engine speed with the throttle lever, and as the load varies, the governor is constantly working the carburetor throttle plate to hold your set speed. To run without the governor, you would have to link the throttle lever to the carb, and you would have to be constantly working the throttle lever to adjust engine speed as the loads changed and preventing engine overspeed if the load drops off suddenly.
