New to me tractor hauler tire question.

Hi all. I recently brought home a 1961 Ford F500.

It been tucked away in a barn for a loooong time. Last
time it was license to be on the road was 1987. Im
working to get back on the road. And hopefully haul a
tractor or two! But I need tires. These are 8.25x20 10 ply.
Do you still use these on your stuff? And if so where is
your tire getting spot?

I found some of those for a C-60 in 1982. Figure out how to replace them with 22.5-s and move on. Will require new wheels, but well worth the investment. Now for the bad news. We buy tires a container at a time. Just was quoted $1,000 for 425-s and $600 for 22.5-s. New tires will probably exceed the value of the vehicle, but will still be cheaper than paying someone else for the move.

1939farmall. That is one gorgeous piece of machinery. Im serious. Id like one for a shop truck. Ill probably have to check into an auction more north of me. Nothing locally. If it runs looks like youll need tires and maybe brakes. Congratulations. Wingnut

Regarding the 22.5 tires--a truck forum I belong to suggests checking truck salvage yards for the proper rims. Also, if the yard has school busses in it, check those. Or perhaps a school district or school bus contractor might be able to help you out.

(quoted from post at 19:03:40 09/08/22) I need tires. These are 8.25x20 10 ply.

There's a lot of web pages with 8.25-s, but all out of stock. Maybe this site can help if you want to stay with 20-s.

Coker Tire and definitely Universal Vintage Tire. M.E. Miller Tire. I got some from Universal Tire and they brought them to a car show/swap near me to pickup, no delivery charge.

A lot of the junkyards will have the 10 bolt Budd or hub piloted wheels and those 5 and 6 bolt wheels are harder to come by. Though if you got the 22.5's they will be easier to get used. We have a local junkyard that it is a search to find tires of popular sizes in. All the tires go first of anything there. A year ago we got a dozen 100R-22.5 for the dump trailer. All practically new for around 50.00 wheels and tires. These were already to put on.

The tire barn is my tire store for cars and trucks.

If those are split rings, find new rims.

You may need a complete new system due to internal rusting.

On tires, forget the split rims. get some new wheels. DOT probably requires new tires on the steering wheels but the rears could be
recaps which I have used and got as good of service out of them as new. A lot of local running 18 wheelers (rock buckets in
particular) run them. There is a recapper in my area who supplied me with such when I was going through my second
childhood....playing with trucks in the sand!

Just bid on some 8.25-20 tires at an online auction in WI. Keep an eye on Marketplace, and Craigslist. Have a Dump trailer made from a late 50s International truck with 5 hole Budd rims. Also working on a 1950 Chevy fire truck with 8.25-20 original tires. If you need them right now it could be expensive. If you keep looking, there are some used ones out there. Respect the side lock rims, but don't fear them. By Dot regulation retread tires are not allowed as steer tires on a bus. Other trucks are ok, but not my first choice. My 2 cents, Steve.

I know the 8.25-20 but not the others. Question is how much bigger are the others in diameter and if already underpowered how much would those bigger wheels afect that. The 20 inch was what was on out manuare spreader. Just curious about the increased size.

Nice truck!
I changed a few 8.25x20s - back in the early 80s. I put 6 good used tires on an old truck and drove it up the AlCan. Had a couple of flats along the way.
I still have a tire hammer hanging on the wall in a shed up at the property.
Probably time to let it go.

How close are you to Central WI. There is an add on Facebook Marketplace from Vesper WI for 4-8.25-20 and 2-7.50-20 on GM 10 hole rims for $800. I can use the rims for spares. Steve

Im down in Missouri. So far Ive come up dry on these tire. Im actually waiting on a call back right now. For a set of rims that will fit the truck and take 22.5 tires. The more I look, if I can make it happen without breaking the bank its probably the right move. But thank you for looking. I really appreciate it!
