Looks like Evening Primrose. Each one of those tubes is already full of hundreds of seeds. They are very prolific!

It Evening Primrose as noted. Though often cultivated for blooms and the seeds for medicinal uses, it is dramatically prolific. There are several varieties that are much smaller (I grow some in a flower garden) but in a field it will take over. 24-D kills it readily, but in this case the seeds are in those pods and the whole plant needs to be burned without disbursing the seeds. If there are hundreds of plants, you must decide, if fifty cut and burn soon. Jim

I have just a very few of them here in NH. When I see them I stop what I am doing and pull them up. They pull easily.

It may be a weed, but I have an un-mowed area in my front yard I sure would like something like that to proliferate in. Every flowering weed I plant there just gets choked out.

The trouble with keeping prolific weeds is how quickly they over proliferate
