A sawmill in Clay city, In has a huge de-barker.
It spins the log and removes all the bark and dirt.
They cut boards using a big vertical bandsaw.
They want to remove the dirt to protect the blade.

It might run off the PTO. But what does it fasten to? Otherwise it would just spin with the shaft. I don't think you are going to hold it by hand.

It was probably lagged down onto a "locally sourced" plank.

Look more like a boot brush to me.
Get it ,try it and report your opinion , Ive never seen one so ,if you ask about it ,its rarely used

around western wa a good barker is very important to the mills. the chips made from the waste of making lumber, are sometimes worth more than the lumber. in my 35 yrs in the mill, i have seen a few times where units of finished lumber were sent through a chipper, as it was of more value to the mill. however a wheel barrel of bark in the truck load of chips will make the chips nearly worthless. the chips are used to make paper. the bark is used to generate power of for landscaping.
