Air cleaner for JD B

I'm trying to remove the air cleaner cup from my John Deere B but it stuck/won't come off. any suggestions?

Lay a piece of wood on the side of it and tap in the wood piece a few times go to both side doing this and sort of tap down ward

If its cold enough to freeze and it hasn't been off for awhile, it maybe froze on.

That's the LAST thing I want! ICE! I have the whole assembly removed from the tractor and stored inside a unheated garage. If there is ice in it do I just get a torch and melt it out?

I'd bring it into a place that is warm. A torch can/will mess up the piant

Its one that has just a bit of paint, mostly rust. I'm trying to remove it to blast it.

Old paint and rust don't like heat so heating it up will help clean it up

I'd be careful with any torching. You risk distorting the sheet metal.

I tried lightly heating it and it fell right off. That's the good news. The bad news is that it is rusted through internally.
