661 Ford tractor

I havent been on forum in a while but I have a 661 Ford that jumps out of 3rd gear someone please tell me what to do. Thanks in advance!

with MF I always carried a big screwdriver & unscrewed the cap, reach in there & pop it back in. Easy to do & maybe several days later, do it again. Gets you going anyway til it can be fixed.

Shaun, below, is correct.

Not uncommon, and third is the gear most likely to do so.

Might help to inspect/replace the shift detent plungers and replace the springs beneath the three plugs on the left side of the transmission. No guarantees but might help a bit, especially if you find a broken spring.

I agree with the shift detent plungers. It is a lot easier than a new gear and collar so it is worth a try.

I had a '63 4 cyl 2000D with a 4 speed and when I bought it it would sometimes jump out of PTO and 4th gear would disconnect if I didn't keep pressure on the shifter/selector lever(in both instances) with my hand. It took quite awhile but using it cured both problems. Apparently it had been sitting for a long time and weather had its affect.
