Does anyone know if granny's real name was ever said? What was it?To keep farm related, did Jed farm with mules,or a worn out 8N ford?Did he even farm?

Given that BH creator Paul Henning grew up in 1920's Arkansas I would bet on animal power. He admitted that his approach was very anachronistic in his shows including Green Acres. I question whether he knew much about commercial farming versus subsistence farming so it was probable Jed mostly raised for his family and had a little bit to sell to have money for the general store. Probably cut wheat by hand and had a thresher come in to finish the wheat. Hay would have been loose going into a mow in the barn.
Used a wheel barrow to take any manure to the edge of the field.

Daisy mae Moses was grannys show name , Irene Ryan , she was busy doing play work all her life. She worked hard to capture the character of Granny. IMHO GRANNY makes the show . , Jed was a horse and mule man , no tractors , Jed threatened to quit. The writers had to make Him look wise and level headed and self taught. . Jethro drove a 1924 oldsmobile model 42 touring car. It was found in time for shooting in northern California or Oregon at a feedmill . someone had converted to a pikup and it was sitting in the abandoned equipment row. As far as i know the original engine and equipment were kept in running order in the car for the entire show ,Ellie mae was in her late 20s when the show began.

Never knew it was a converted car. Perfect. I always thought it was an old Dodge,Chevy or other truck.

''You're Grandma Moses? She was famous for painting primitives''.

''Ya, he he, I've whitewashed a few myself''.

Paul Henning's daughter played Betty Jo on Petticoat Junction and was the voice of Jethrine om BH. There's rags to riches for you.

if you're a country person and have some southern exposure you appreciate that show. not everyone catches all the nuances tucked here and there. I think its one of the best shows every made.

seems to me like Granny did all the farming and bragged about her prize winning vegetables.

Granny was played by Irene Ryan.
For more funny stuff check out Marjorie Main. She played a lot of roles in movies of the 30's and 40's. Check out Ma & Pa Kettle. Percy Kilbride was pretty funny, too.

I've got one out behind the barn. It was used to power a flat belt off the back of the tranny.
I thought it was a truck because of the really deep frame. They had an overhead valve four,
much like the Chevrolet. They were both used to convert Ford Model A's for more power.

I thought on one of the earlier shows Jed introduces Granny as his mother-in-law and says her name. I think the series is on Netflix or Amazon. Mark.

(quoted from post at 19:35:32 12/30/22) Is being a mountaineer an occupation?
What do they do? How do they pay the bills?

A mountaineer is not a profession its an obsession.
They don't have bills , they live off of the land.
