Finally got the rear tires replaced on the 2140 today. The 40 year old originals were not leaking yet but had some scary cracks in the sidewalls that could open up any time.

(quoted from post at 20:56:50 01/14/23) What brand did you get? I got to replace the fronts on the fwa cx100 before to long.
Its a Chinese brand called "Westlake". The tire installer recommended them as a good brand.

....open up any time. One warm summer day I was snoozing with my chair rocked back against the garage. BANG! What... where...? Got up & looked for the source. Over against the hill where my MF 150 had been parked for a week... a blow out. What a way to wake up.

Looks like they would be pretty bumpy to drive on with all the flat sides.

I know what you mean about the cracks. I bought a 1959 tractor in 2009 and I think it must have had the original tires on it that it was
born with. I still haven't replaced them. Too cheap.

Yikes. I have never heard any tire dealer say that. But
they are a few hundred dollars cheaper. Is that 30 inch
tires ?

18.4x30. He sells and repairs a lot of tires and knows what lasts and what doesn't. These will hopefully last longer than I will need the tractor.

My tire man recommends Westlake as a good value brand in the bias tire division. I have bought 2 sets of them, 18.4x30 and a pair of 18.4x34. The larger pair is on a loader tractor where it is possible to ruin a tire and the other pair is on a tractor that doesn't get a whole lot of hours most years. So far, I have been quite happy with them. I had never heard of them before he suggested them. He recommends BKT as an economy tire in the radial division.

I havent heard of Westlake but I have several
tractors that have been rolling around on Galaxy tires
now for close to 10 years, and they have been fine. I
did like you, and keep my tractors inside when not
being used. The hot sun takes the life out of tires.

Coincidentally, the original tires on my fifth-wheel camper were Westlake. They held up well, but I replaced them when they were five years old because I wasn't comfortable pulling the camper at interstate speeds on 75 mph tires. It now has 89 mph Goodyear Endurance STs.

Yes, indoor parking adds years to the life of tires. I had a Galaxy tire installed on the Cockshutt 40 way back in the 1990s and the only defect in it is where I got too close to a culvert in the driveway cutting grass. Other than that it is good as new. I've had good luck with BKT implement and front tractor tires too. Apparently these Westlake tractor tires are no longer available.

I bought my 91 24' Dutchman new. I can count the times it has been over 70 on my fingers. I replaced the original Goodyear Marathons in 2010 when I hit a tailpipe on the highway and cut a side wall. Replaced with another set of Goodyear Marathons. This year at hunting camp.

I like to run 68 mph on the interstate. But sometimes it's necessary to go a bit faster to keep up with the trucks; I seldom if ever hit 75 mph, but I don't want to test my tires' speed rating.

As far as I can tell, Goodyear no longer makes a light trailer tire under the Marathon brand. I assume Marathon has been replaced by Endurance.
