Yes indeed .... but when a guy looks back at how much he was making 31 years ago, we probably thought YIKES !!! I remember on a summer trip in about 1980 or so, gas in Kamloops BC had just hit $1.00 per imperial gallon in town, that's about $0.23 per litre. I filled up on the way to the coast because I knew it was a wee bit less a few miles down the highway. My dad was a traveling door-to-door salesman back in the 50's, I remember him telling me he was paying $7 per night in a motel .... he likely thought he was getting fleeced .... ha!

(quoted from post at 14:23:44 04/20/23) What did farmland sell for back then?
I'm not sure but it seems to me you could buy most any quarter section around here for around the $50,000 mark. I should remember. I bought one in 89 or 90.

I bought a new Silverado K1500 for $15,500 out the door in 1992. I drove that truck for 450,000 miles. Of course, I think that might have been half a year's pay.

It's all relative I guess. As much as it pains me to say it, the most well off I've ever been was the 90s, 2010 to about 2013 and now.

In the fall of 1974 i order a 1975 Chevrolet Cheyenne pickup, almost $7.000 dollars, just sold it in 2022 for $2,500.The guy said afterwards he said he would of paid $3,000 for it!!! It still was a fair investment for me!

Bought a 92 c/k work truck for $9200 with a trade of 84 chevy custom deluxe.Still have the truck today with over 400.000 miles.

Mr. Horse,

There was a chain of motels operating here in the US back in the 1960s - 1970s called Motel 6. Their daily fee was $6.66. It wasn't the Ritz, but it was clean and comfortable. There are still Motel 6s, but I imagine that their fee is considerably more than $6.66 today.

Tom in TN

just stayed in one in Morehead KY. $55 & bedspread had cigarette burn holes thru them. Safe & clean tho.

$7000 in 1974 is worth over $40000 in 2023.

A Cheyenne was a pretty fancy truck for the time wasn't it? A base truck these days probably has the same level of options, but if you're going fancy-for-fancy, a fancy truck by today's standards will set you back upwards of $80000.

You paid too much then, haha. My Daddy bought a brand new 1966 Chevy step side pickup in Montgomery AL for $1500, our local dealer wanted $1600 and Dad told them that was too much and made the 2 hour drive to save a $100. He gave it to me when I turned 16 years old and I drove it all through my high school years and sold it in 1982 for $2000, wish I had kept it now.

I bought a 1977 Chevy Cheyenne SWB pickup new that was loaded with options, sticker price was $4300, paid just a tad over $3900. That truck was beautiful, had two tone buck skin paint scheme.
