I putting my engine back together and can't remember does the cup end go toward engine or away? I don't have a book and the only reason I'm asking is I seen one for sale and it has rubber around the metal . Mine is just metal. Any pictures would help. Thanks

Hello SM welcome to YT! I would think if you placed
the cup or concave side against the crank gear it
would be crushed when the pulley/damper is drawn in
place. Maybe it is heavy duty enough that this could
not happen. To be honest I have never seen one from
one of those engines.

The cup goes toward the timing cover, it keeps the front seal from being flooded with too much oil which could cause a leak.

no there are in there. the damper is butted right up to it its just thin metal.
