My grandparents lived in house like that until the late 30's when Grandpa bought a farm with a much better house on it.
They worked hard to have what they had.
They raised 8 kids and were never unhappy.
Some of my aunts and uncles lived in houses like that when they first got married.
A home is what you make it.
Still quite a few of those style houses here in our part of the world.

Probably two brothers and families. Photo to send back to the old folks to
show how well they are doing. Save cost of an extra photo. They forgot the dog.
Probably hand sewn flour sack dresses and shirts. Is that a hog butchering kettle?

More of a lard rendering kettle. Cut up chunks of fat, slowly cooked over a wood fire. Cracklins float to the top. Lard in the bottom. Cracklins are modern day pork rinds.
