I have a 1947 john Deere B I got running after 9 years of sitting in a shed, it ran ok but not great last week on its first start, tried to get it going again today and it ran for about 10 seconds then died. I changed the oil out of it today and the petcocks are open so when I turn the flywheel gas is spraying out of that. Can someone explain why it won't start again? It also has good spark.

If gas is spraying out of the petcocks, it is flooded. Shut off the fuel at the tank and leave the petcocks open. cranking it should clear the excess gasoline. Drying the spark plugs with a propane torch is also a good idea, put them in warm. Jim

Yes like Jim says , bug u could pull start it also, thats the
Easy way to start a flooded engine. Might be due for a
carb job as the float could have a hole in it from sitting.

Also, check the engine oil and make sure it's not diluted with gas, if it is you need to change it. You need to shut of the gas every time you're done
running it.

And hope the gas shutoff works good. I've had some of the old 2-tank valves not shut off completely and filled gas into the cylinders when carb floats are questionable.
