can anyone help me troubleshoot an electronic tach that just quit working? I've checked all the fuses under the dash. Is there a magnetic type switch that screws into the block.

If it has an electric pickup sensor I would expect it to be either on the flywheel housing or at the timing gear cover since both would work for that. The sensors have to be within a certain clearance from the spinning item to work. Usually screwed in to touch then backed out a partial turn and thread coarseness would dictate how much of a turn. I'll go out on a limb here and guess that the sensor can be checked with an Ohm meter for continuity or not to determine if it is good or not.

shanewhiz,

The rpm sensor is mounted on the right side down by the tandem pump it is easy to see. They do have to be adjusted if you install a new one. They have been known hit the pickup/wheel on the inside.

I seem to remember that the sensor for the tach on the 4243 is on the flywheel, and clutch dust gets on it periodically and it simply needs cleaning to work
again. I do not remember where exactly it is, but if it reads off the flywheel such could happen.
