My 05 F 150 oil leak

My 05 F 150 with a V6 4.2. Has a rear main leaking. Looks like close to 600.00 to change the seal If I was a few years younger I would consider
pulling the tranny back, and changing the seal my self. As it is now At 81 I have a hard time changing my oil. Like today, after three trips to my tool
box to find the correct socket. Pulling the drain plug and missing my drain pan, by a few inches, and oiling my driveway. Then realizing I forgot to
remove the drain pan fill plug. As oil was nearing the spill over point, I had no choice but to stick my hand in the pan of dirty oil to find the fill
plug. As for my oil leak, has anyone used the stop oil leaks in a bottle? The stuff has been around almost as long as I have. Would sure make my life
easier if it worked. Stan

It can work, but it works on all material that it can swell up and make soft. Including valve seals, and PCV hoses, and seals other than the rear main. It also has no stopping point. It does not know when the seal is fixed. Nah. Jim

Valvoline Max Life 5w30 has totally stopped a slow drip on the front main seal on my 2000 Audi TT with 115,000 on it. Your millage may very.

I got a junkyard slant six for my Duster once and the seals leaked like crazy. I got the stuff you are talking about and it slowed the leaks to what I could live with. It's not perfect but I would try it. What have you got to lose?

The motor is close to 100k miles. I have been using 5-30 oil, I am going to 15-40, and see what that does. If no change I may try the magic oil. Stan

I have 100 gallons of Kendall 20w50 oil I run in all my old tractors. It helps for oil burning, but does nothing for leaks. Max Life has additives that are supposed to help for leaky seals. All I know is that it worked for me.

The rear seal s not a common issue with those engines. I would check the PCV Valve for proper operation those engines are know to gum up. Stopped up baffles in the valve cover along with restricted PCV vent system.

What does this mean, make sure the crankcase is able to breath/vent proper. If not all the new seals in the world will leak.
