I am having trouble with drive chain breaking at the connector link, angle on my six down auger 42 bin red giant stirator. The connecting angle on mine rides between the idler and stationary pulley, but it wants to ride around the pulley and breaks the chain!Does anyone have any suggestions on this problem and do you know what makes the trolley switch to go back and forth? Thanks for any advice on this!

Maybe someone will come in with an answer. I usually
do not see the wider range of experienced folks with
this type of ag equipment here. I would recommend
you post this on New AgTalk forums in the ..Machinery
Talk.. section. The majority of posters there are
farmers operating real farms day to day. Maybe clarify
the 42 is the feet of bin diameter?? If that one link
connects to that mechanical lever and it oscillates
there is a possibility that the entire chain is wore out
and needs replaced.

I have worked on one of those, that said it was a couple of years ago. I do not have a manual for that model , but it looks to me that the chain is on backwards,
shouldn't that angle be on the outside of the pulleys. Just my guess with out being there.

If you google DMC red Giant stirring machine manual, look on page 26 it shows the chain and flat pullies the chain is clip is on the outside , opposite of yours, just
reverse the chain and you should be golden.

Thanks for your reply. I think that you are correct with your assessment, I am going to reverse the connection and try again. Do you have any knowledge about how the trolley reverses direction? I dont have an owners manual .

Took me a while to realize that the topic is also referred to as a "grain agitator".

Kinda sad really! My red giant has worked like a charm for
many years for me. Inexpensive way to dry and cool grain ,
maybe some other company will buy them out and continue
the business. Thanks for sharing

They are still being made by now GSI, Sukup also has a version. We install new ones every year. They are the right fit for a not so big operation. Everybody can't be a
BTO.

Yea shouldnt it just ride around in circles, the angle iron on the outside so it can keep going round and
round on the chain?

Paul

What Paul said x2, (place)the angle iron on the outside (of the chain links) so it can keep going round and round on the chain.
This seems to make total sense, eliminates the need for it to constantly reverse or ..toggle.. as you called it.
I stand corrected towards my statement of there not being any here with such knowledge.

You guys are very helpful! I changed the direction of the drive angle, changed out the chain, ran it around today, no issues at all! Thanks a lot!
