Good source for AC/Gleaner combine info?

The combine section here at ytmag has a few of us Gleaner fans - I went from an F to an F2 to about to pick up my F3, been running those since 1980.

Allen has totally rebuilt his old sold & re-owned F2 - or working on it - in several message threads in the Combine area.

Many others have given me good advise on the F series.

There are a couple other web sites, but it can be difficult to list them here - this web site doesn't like us to mention other farm places too well, they are kinda protective of themselves.....

Comb ine talk sh ow was a good one, but they had problems a year ago & hare less than they used to be.

There is a newer one, and I can't think of the link of it right now, has a lot of wheat & western type of combine stuff on it. Someone else will mention it.

Below and forward of the batteries, there is a nameplate riveted to the side of the machine, which has the serial number.

They made more than one version of that combine; get that serial number and someone on here can for sure help ya.

Also, if you can find the operator's manual for your serial number, it will be a big help.

No luck finding any literature. Everything on ebay is for older or newer. Im mainly just curious about engine specs. I know its a four cylinder turbocharged diesel, but cant find any distinct markings. This thing runs like a top, the only thing I"m really having trouble with is making the platform go up and down. Its up, but I cant make it go down!

That diesel will run about 3 gphr, about a gallon per acre in corn. You say platform does not go down- do you mean the thresher housing, or does it have a corn head or grain platform on it now? Once, after sitting off season, with no header on, my housing would not lower- had to put some down pressure on it to loosen it. Since then I never parked it off season with the housing all the way up. Raising it would loosen it. There is an adjusting screw on the header valve body in the hydraulic stack on the right side of the machine. Allan's comment about getting the book according to serial number is right on- several are available. 39201 and up are long shoe machines- more cleaning capacity.

Tx,

You've got a long-tail and your serial number is gonna be 39201 and up. Keep watching ebay for your manual as they show up on a regular basis. That machine was VERY common.

Good, solid, reliable machine as reported by those who have owned the rascals.

Lift your header all the way up; on the left lift ram, check to see if the safety ram-stop-lock is down on the ram. If so, lift it up and hook it on the header housing lip.

Also, some had a hydraulic safety lock located (As I recall) at the rear of the step platform "porch". The header will not lower if this lever is in the saftey position.

Maybe someone left the ol's sis in the "up" position with the safety(s) on.

Congrats, you'll be bragging on that machine 'fore too long. :>)

It has a grain platform. I suspected that there might be some sort of safety lock, but hadnt investigated into it. Spent most of yesterday afternoon lubing her up. Have a few chains that appear as if they need to be tightened a bit, and plan on changing the oil and fuel filters. Not sure as to when it was done last.

You can trust Allan, but do not trust that valve that Allan is talking about- the one by the cab door. It does shut off the oil to/from the header cylinders, but if the hose or steel line breaks while you are under the header, it will kill you! Mine broke while my son was driving it to a welding shop (no header on it- thresher housing fell down) to install a mechanical lock over the header cylinder- like Allan was talking about on the left side of the housing. Mine had the helper springs on the header cylinders, used with a bean header, so I added a dummy cylinder and brackets on the right side, with a mechanical lock. Pic is in archives.
