Chip an engine

I know you can "chip" a diesel engine for different attributes.

Does anyone know of a gasoline engine "chip" (or a way to do customize the factory computer) that will let a person customize the fuel, timing, and utilize additional sensor inputs, etc, by tuning the software in it?

I have installed some programs by hypertech in some 5.4 triton fords with good results balanceing power and economy, many are better in both respects after the programming, keep in mind improving airflow with higher flowing intake and exgaust are the key.

Recently did an 04 cummins , used the edge system and realized only about .5 mpg improvement, Installed improved intake and exhaust system and instantly saw 2 to 4 mpg improvement, bear in mind this cant be done on diesels newer than 07, and in some states, not on any years.but airflow in a diesel = efficiency and economy, your first and best improvement is to get the air moving through it. not just in, you need to improve the out at the same time.

Superchips. My brother just bought that for his '06 Ram 1500. He said the engine came alive. The reprograming removed the throttle and shifting delays that were left by the factory. He also gets the same fuel milage on 87 octane that he used to get with 91 octane (20mpg highway, with a Hemi and MDS). At $400+ they aren't cheap though.

Yes you can do ANYTHING with enough time and/or money! First cousin is an Orthopedic Surgeon in Indiana. Lives on a lake. New speed boat not speedy enough (with a Corvette engine). Friend of his works for a GM dealer. Friend brings 'bag of tricks' to boat, and it is no longer too slow. Greg
