diesel additive

Friend is having to rebuild pump on a big 200hp Massey tractor. He just bought it, so probably from the fuel the last owner used. What are most of you using for an additive? Will ATF be OK, and if so, how much? Like a quart to 300 gal tank? I know, the new fuel is SUPPOSED to have enough lub. but once of this is enough. Just to be safe.

A friend of mine was an Allis Chalmers dealer for forty years, he says ATF works good, removes moisture and lubes the pump. In the winter time I put a quart of oil in 10 gallons of fuel and dump it in the tractors, lots of lube on cold mornings, also add some de icer.

Biodiesel would be the best but Howes is the best additive I have seen, lubricity, cleaning, anti gelling. It does it all.

ATF is used by a lot of truck shops for removing any built up deposits in the pump and injectors, but does nothing for water dispersant or jelling fuel. Use the Howes additive. That will provide a better all around protection for the entire system

Yep,

Don't know what it is about that Dextron. It just flat cleans up injectors and it does it in one heck of a hurry.

I mix it a quart to 40 gallon.

All this is great.
I add KILLEM to keep the algae at bay. There are other products that do the same thing it is just the one I use. If you buy in bulk as I do algae will be major cause of plugged injectors and filters.
Also I have found Biodiesel solves the lubricity issue and doesn't cost more.

Thanks goys..its the lubrication I am after. Supply doesn't last long enough to get bugs, and Colorado doesn't suffer from water.

Two-stroke engine-oil is the most cost-effective additive. Added lube protection is measure in micron-improvement over ultra low sulfur diesel.

Super Tech Outboard 2-cycle oil from Walmart added with a 200 to 1 ratio scores very high in wear-tests in fuel injection pumps with a 162 micron improvement.

Used motor-oil, e.g. Shell Rotella 15W-40 only tested with a 2 micron improvement.

ATF at 200 to 1 showed just about no measurable gain in lube.

Here's a chart of test results. Disregard any prices shown since they change so much.

Thanks for taking the time to compile that list. Looks like the ticket is to add about a half gallon of biodiesel per tankfull routinely, then use ATF or one of the additives once in awhile to clean things up. Of course, no gelling problem here in the balmy Pacific Northwest (where high temp will AGAIN be in the 50's today, with scattered showers, and I can't get my corn to sprout).

It's possible the injection pump failure was due to time, hours, dirt and water. And not related to the fuel in any way shape or form.

I personally do not know any thing about the subject but, my new John Deere manual says: using deisel with more than 5% Biodeisel will void the warranty. It also says do not add any type of oil including 2cycle engine oil to the fuel.

I planted some of my sweet corn twice this year - in cental New York. We don't seem to get spring anymore - just late winter - to mid-summer with little in between.

I did my first planting early to mid May. We had a few warm days - and it then got dark, dismal, and cold. To make things worse. I planted a bunch of non-treated, non-hyrid corn this year so we can get seeds to save and reuse. I was still heating the house with a smoldering wood-fire, so I guess that can indicate poor corn weather.

We didn't get any real "corn sprouting" weather until a week or two ago. Seems I lost 2/3 of what I replanted, and I had to replant.

Yesterday - it was 100 degrees F here - which just about never happens - not even mid-August. But, at least the soil is 60 degrees plus now.

I planted peas in early March, then got a run of cold, rainy weather- had just about given up on them, when most came up a month after I planted. I don't think corn is as tolerant- seems like if you don't get it up in a couple of weeks, it ain't gonna happen. I'm about there with mine, now.

ATF fluid has friction modifers not much lube there ,go to
www.schaefferoil.com
they have some of the best additives .

if you use biodiesel you wont need anything to clean it up bio will do that better than anything else. thats why people complain of filter plugging issues when they start using it. ps it will peel paint.
