I just aquired an old 1949 to 20 along w/the orig manuals. ( like parchment) In looking up the fluids it calls for a90# mineral oil in the transmission. What would be todays best alternative? Any help would be apreciated.

# 65-205 is a 5g pail of 90wt gl-1 mineral gear oil from napa. We ford N owners use it.. and the fergy 20/30 uses the same pump as a 9n/2n.. and with a little difference.. the 8n.

Hi Larry,
The following quote is from gshadel on the Harry Ferguson board. You might try that board as well. A lot of knowlegable guys there like soundguy who live and breathe TO20/30 Fergys.

"I switched my oil from the standard GL-1 90 wt mineral oil to 15W40 commercial(diesel) oil last Winter and have been real happy with the results, fast response in the Winter, no problems in the Summer. It was cheaper than GL-1 too. 90W GL-1 mineral oil is NOT that stinky, thick 90W EP gear oil like you would add to a truck tranny. GL-1 more like 20-30W engine oil. I have bought GL-1 from NAPA and TSC over the past couple years, they both still carry it but may not stock it on the shelf, but can order it and have it in a couple days."
