How do I get this piston out?

My #4 piston is stuck and I had it soaking in transmission fluid for about 3 weeks with no effect. I removed the block and put it on the work bench. I stood over it with my 16# sledge hammer and a 2X4 and wailed on that sucker and it still will not budge. It looks like someone welded it in there. # 3 was free so I pulled it out and checked the ring gap. I quit checking at .090". So, what now folks. With that kind ring gap, I will at least re-ring all the cylinders. But, does anyone have an idea as to how to remove that piston without ruining the block? I appreciate any help y'all can give me.

fill that cyl with vinegar let set for a week or till piston gets loose. Keep topping the cyl off with vinegar. Email if u have questions.

it will work uncle used it on a tractor that was stuck for 5 years didnt even have to overhaul it and it used no oil

Access to a hydraulic press? "Construct" one with a hydraulic jack and chain. Steady pressure does more than beating on it.

how does vinegar work, im working on a stuck piston on a farmall H 3rd piston in from front,im using WD40 and a wood blcok, talk about slow im moving it, i dont want to move it anymore in case i hit bottom and cant go any farther, but if vinegar works ill give a try.

vinegar is a mild acid will eat the rust out just keep checking the piston and keep the cyl full of vinegar

The idea of using a jack is the best as that engine has sleeves and making a good solid bracket for the jack the sleeve should come out with the piston together as you will need new sleeves and pistons as they are probably pitted and no good anyway. A engine kit will have new sleeves and pistons.

we have a product around here called pb blaster it is available in local parts stores and of course wal-mart

Take your block to a machine shop with a press and have them press it out. A new sleeve kit is probably needed. Have them measure your crankshaft for wear too. Hal

If the vinegar doesn't work, here's a trick I've used once or twice. Put the block on an engine stand and wheel it outside on the driveway. Pour a 50/50 mix of diesel fuel and motor oil into the bore, about 1/2 pint, not much. Keep a good fire extinguisher handy and light the mixture on fire. The heat will expand the piston and bore. Be careful, it will smoke really bad. Let it burn off, and cool completely. Then tap the piston crown lightly with a wooden hammer handle. It should come loose with a little work. This has worked for me a couple times, just BE CAREFUL and exercise plenty of common sense.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I forgot to say, this is A Minnie GVI LP. It doesn't have sleeves. I have it soaking in vinegar right now and next weekend I'll be ready with my hydraulic jack and chain. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Just break the piston and buy a new one if avalable. time is money and in my shop there is no time to screw around.

Be very careful using a chain they look a lot stronger than actually are. You can build a small system from metal and bolt it above the piston then use a hydraulic jack to push it out.
