Tell me Im right!!!!!!! On a 4.3 V6 Chevy/GMC if youre lookin down on the distributor top the rotor is turning CLOCKWISE so if you wanna advance the timing, the distribuitr itslef rotates COUNTERCLOCKWISE CORRECT???????????

Must be right cuz that way made the RPM increase...

Sure, Im well aware of the damper pully timing mark n timing light etc., just doin a lil seat of the pants thing here this morning followed by a road test n timing light later. She specs at TDC, throttle body FI

Yup, she specs at TDC. You have to disconnect the advance wire or the computer will make adjustments and set you back to TDC. You are working with a light, right? Too much adavance will cause the knock sensor to retard timing defeating what you are doing.

In answer to the rotation question, yes, the distributor rotates clockwise, so turning it to the left will advance the timing.
As everyone else said, be sure you use a timing light and disconnect the connector to get an accurate setting. You can get by with about 2 degrees advance, if you feel you need to (e.g. very high mileage motor), but most of the time, the TDC setting is the best.
Good Luck and God Bless.

Thanks yall, she was at TDC (with that lil wire removed) n starts n runs fine, its just that my mechanic buddy (I agreed) thought she was slightly "sluggish" so I wanted to try just a tad of advance beyond TDC (seat of pants adjustment so far, prob at least 5 ahead of where she was at) n see what happens, but I reckon the computer may just run her where it wants to regardless??

Its in a 21 ft wide body Astro Van RV conversion so its on the heavy side anyway which may be the cause of sluggishness??? It has the OD (lockup TC I reckon) tranny n gets great MPG for what it is, I just wanna see if I can get a bit more throttle response, but am well aware its NOT gonna jump like my V6 pickup.
