we have been spraying our sweet corn with liquid sevin due to the japanese beetles. havent noticed any differende. dont spray too close to harvest tho.., follow directions .

I had tiny black bugs in the corn silks and I sprayed the silks with MALITHON. The corn hasn't matured yet but I tasted an ear today and seemsd a little bitter.

We use mineral oil sprayed on the silk of each ear. Spray every other day for 3 sprayings when the first silk appears. It breaks the flying insect laying eggs on the silk to hatch into a worm and enter the ear cycle. A lot of hand pumping with a squirt bottle but worth it. No nasty chemicals either.

First question was spraying the tassel, changed to the silk. Which one? Maybe a powder on the silk, but nothing liquid.

Unless you enjoy wormy corn you have to use pesticides.Mineral oil on the silk works on small plantings.Malithion is a fruit tree spray.A friend has a lot of newly planted fruit trees. His wife did not want to spray but got tired of wormy fruit. He brought me some sweet cherries that had been sprayed once.No worms, now his wife wants all trees sprayed. He had beautiful peaches last year but they were wormy.I spray very little but need the corn to be worm free if I sell it.

I use sevin and dipel(thuricide) mixed together. the sevin gets the bugs, and the dipel gets the worms, dipel and thuricide are the same thing, a bacteria that works on the worms digestive tract causing death to the worm but will not bother anything else
