8n - adding a loader

Hard on the front ends, makes them a bear to steer and if it still has the 19 inch tires on it, it will cut ruts big time. Now if it has the 16s up front wider tires are a plus so as to keep it from shrinking in soft ground. Also some type of fluid in the rear tires and over a counter weight is needed on the 3 point

How much is this project really going to cost when completed? An 8N with a loader is a step above a shovel and wheel barrel.
However it"s a light duty unit that has gotten thousands of people hurt or killed.
It might be a thought to take the $$$ you figure you would have to spend to equip the 8N. Then double it to get a more accurate answer.
Then take that cash and the sale price of the 8N and purchase a Massey 35/135/235/65/165/265.
The loader would have down pressure on the boom and a hydraulic bucket. The tractor would have working brakes, power steering, a Perkins diesel engine, more gears in the transmission. A diff lock, a real drawbar, rear hydraulic remotes, high pressure hydraulics and an aftermarket rops.
A Massey 65 wth loader could just about pickup an 8N and carry it like a toy.

A loader on an "N" works just fine, IF you do it properly.
MUST have 16" tires on the front to keep tires from digging in on the turns.
MUST have a counter weight on the back of the tractor. Requires enough weight on the back to make it steer with one hand when the bucket is empty. My backhoe weighs 1,500#. I allways have a minum of 500# on the back.
Loaded rears will also help with traction.
Sherman under drive will also help. I have the Sherman over/under...excelent addition to any "N"!
You can tie down the 3 point and use the internal pump for hyd, BUT it is too slow and stops when you stop, you won't be happy with that. Works best with a front mounted pump driven by the crank.

Here's mine, has had a loader and backhoe on it since the early 80's, worked comercialy for 18 years of that, NEVER had any problem with the front end or the rest of the tractor due to either.

Here we go again with Mr. sarcasm. I honestly can't imagine any women, children, co-workers or neighbors in general having to be around such a blatant A-hole. You can't possibly act the same way in the real world that you talk on here.

A loader/8N combo is refered to as a "jungle gym". The N is not a good loader tractor. If you just want to move dirt, a rear mounted slip scoop will do that. Otherwise, better look for a "loader tractor". Tons and tons of them out there.

Sounds like a blindly loyal ford person.
So you are saying for a similar amount of money. bump should go with ford instead of the superior Massey?

No blind loyalty. We all know the Massey is a better tractor genious. But nobody was asking about a Massey. You were just blabbing your mouth like usual.

Properly maintained 8n's have brakes.. and a crank driven pump and the proper loader could give you down pressure, and ull hyd bucket.. all depends on how you want to set it up.

While an 8n is not an ideal candidate for a loader.. it is certaintly better than a shovel and wheel barrow.

Other fords.. perhaps a 660 or 860 would be a better choicee and the same price range.. etc.

I was suggesting to the guy an alternative to heading down a blind alley with the ford.
He may not have even realized there was an alternative in the same price range as modifying the ford.
