8N will not start

I have replaced all of the elictrical system and converted to 12 volt. It has become more difficult to start and has reached the point that it does not start at all. I have a nice blue color on the spark plugs when checking the spark. The carb is geeting gas. When I pull the spart plugs out one by one after trying to start it, the number one plug has plent of gas on it but as I chech the remaing plugs 1,2,4,3 each one has less to the point that the last two have none.
I have considered that the carb is not giving enough fuel to the engine but with the up draft carb, I would think that the fuel delivery would be equal.

Pull the tube from the air cleaner off that carb, hold your hand over the carb, it should give a good hard suction there. If it doesn't then you have a gasket problem either at the top of the carb or manifold. Have the switch on when you do that it may just start when you do that. You also may have gas fouled plugs I would try a new set of plugs. Auto lite 437s seem to work best in the 8N fords.

You may have a vacuum issue, or lack of it rather. Check for inlet manifold leaks at the back end and check to see if the problem is valves not closing/seating properly, as it may be losing inlet depression through this.

Probably absolutely nothing to do with your electrical change over. If the spark is good and at the right time it is doing it's job. Why did you think it is important to start your post this way?

I just wanted to include all details of what I am doing. Perhaps someone would see some type of pattern to the issue.

If you put a resistor in the ignition coil line it may have gone bad. Try bypassing it and see if the tractor starts with it out of there. Then go and buy a new one and put it in. Or, run it without one! That is what I have done for the last 2 years. I know I will get a backlash for saying that but mine has been working fine with the resistor gone.

Do you think it is an ignition issue? I don't, from your information. Try drawing a bigger spark from the plug wire to the frame . If you get an 8 to 10 mm spark, there is nothing wrong with that part of the ignition system.

It appaers to me to be a simple, or otherwise, fuel related issue.

You will soon get the 'change the condenser, or coil, - it worked for me' brigade.

Well, what Old said, plus you might try taking the intake pipe off of the carb, and hold a rag soaked in gas over the carb intake. If it fires up you know you have a fuel problem.Could be the plugs, but since you said its getting harder and harder to start, your valves might need to be adjusted, that would be why you need to check the compression. If its not that, could be lots of things, bad gas, carb gasket, intake gasket, intake manifold.

given the fact that you have a fat spark, I'd give it a shot of ether and see how it behaved. If it didn't atleast cough, I'd check timing (too advanced would be my guess) and then compression like Mike M said.
