went monday to buy an elevator at an old farmstead that is being sold to a developer. 40 ft, but thats anther story. my buddy found the niece that is handling the property, they owners have passed away several years ago. farm has been abandonded and is waaayyyy overgrown. so anyway we went stomping around there to identify equipment for the niece. so far we found 2 john deere b"s, styled on rubber, one electric start, trees growing thru them, tin all rusted off, an allis chalmers wc, a massey 165 that caught fire, an early allis industrial or maybe utility, could be a 332? with a loader, 10 ft pull type hydraulic disc, 2 jd front mount cultivators, 1 ground driven hay rake, a jd 14t baler, and old i-h baler, (couldnt get a model number, wasps chased me off) at least 2 drags, a jd pull type sickle mower, 2 -4 row jd planters, 1- 6 row jd planter, could see the tops of 2 corn pickers, couldnt get too em yet, maybe jd or new idea, 3 bottom 3 pt plow, (maybe a ford) but it was buried in a junkpile, 8-10 ft field cultivator on steel, several david bradley wagon running gears, and a lot of other stuff to buried to identify. next time out there i gotta bring a mower to cut some paths, and take a camera to post some pics. we talked the niece into not scrapping anything yet till figure out what all is there. farm id near monee illinois. i"ll try and get a list together with photos and what she wants for stuff, then if anybody is interested, they can contact her. lot of good junk!!!!

I haven"t seen any "junk" in the old iron world. Auctioneer said it"s "merchandise" "supplies" or "inventory"

I saw a farm auction flyer a couple of years ago in Taylor Co., KY that said "improvements beyond renovation". The comment put me beyond words....
This town is along I-57 just south of Chicago but in the country - barely.

Glennster,
Once you get a handle on what she has and what she might want for some of it, I would be real interested in the treasures you ahve stumbled on.

will do!! i hate to see this stuff get cut up, i"m sure somebody could either fix the stuff up or use it for parts.

I agree 100%. Even if a particular machine is way beyond repair or restoration, it will still have some useable parts, even if the only part you can salvage is a hunk of iron that you can use for future welding projects.

The tractor spitting stands that I built have iron from a JD 227 picker, and iron from an Allis 220 disk.

Sounds like some treasures for sure. I live in Northern Illinois, so its good to hear there's still places like that in my neck of the woods. If I wasn't so busy with my own projects, I'd go out there and give you a hand.

Good luck working with the niece--hopefully she doesn't just sell out to a scrap dealer.

It is "junk" when I'm trying to buy something, but "valuable merchandise" when I'm selling. Depends on which side of the deal a person is on as to what it is called.

I am about 65 miles from Monee. I would be interested in some of the items. tntonline at hotmail dot com. John
