Since we've talked about favorite TV shows and ending of shows, how about a discussion about music? What's your favorite kind of music and what are your favorite bands? My favorite kind of music is country with Southern rock right behind country. I like some classic rock stuff too. Favorite bands for me are Alabama, Restless Heart, Alleman Brothers, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Blackfoot, CDB, Lynrd Skynrd, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, ZZ Top, Journey, Don Henley, Eagles, and Charlie Floyd's Southern Express (when my son was the drummer). What are your's? Maybe we can talk about favorite solo artists in another thread.

I like some ofthe newer rock stuff, but not much. Like Hank SR, but not a fan of JR. Dont listen to country anymore, too "Rockish", like some of Sintras stuff, Etta James, just about any bluegrass out there, old and new, some Southern Rock, really just a mix. It depends on the mood Im in at the moment, but 8 times out of 10 the radio is off.

Most anything but pop music. My favorites are heavy metal, southern rock and some country. Bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams III, Drive by Truckers, and Black Label Society.

Led Zeppelin, Cream, Black Sabbath, Primus, Kix,
Tesla, LA Guns, early Metallica, Megadeth, Panterra, Ratt....love them guitars!!

I forgot one: Western Flyer. This band was a great band but didn't last long. Great music, good harmony, good lyrics.

At the Seward County Nebraska County Fair yesterday, I attended an accordion jamboree--two hours of 11 button accordions, a tuba, and a set of drums.

Now that was living!!

I listen to pretty much everything except rap with country and bluegrass being my favorites. Chris LeDoux and Western Underground as well as Alison Krauss and Union Station are a couple of my favorite bands. Not a huge fan of the new country because it's too pop sounding and seems to have lost some of its roots. Ol' George Jones had a pretty good point with his song "Who's gonna fill their shoes" They just dont make em like Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings and such.

Hands down going away,Bluegrass! Alison Kraus and Union Station,Rhonda Vincent and the Rage.

Two weeks ago Rhonda Vincent and her group came to small town Van Wert, Ohio for an outdoor concert. She and her group are exceptional! After her violinist did the finale "Orange Blossum Special" the crowd was cheering, she asked "do you want more"? Yes! She said all you who sing in church choirs come up here. When a good size group was on stage she had a list of gospel songs for them to do. With Rhonda and her group's help it sounded great! She appears to be very personable.

Classical, it's what all other music comes from.

Yohann Pachabel's "Canon In D" is arguably one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.

NcNE: Don't forget Willie, why at 75 he claims he has outlived a certain part of his anatomy. Still sings a damn good song.

No question, George is truly amazing, that guy still has perfect pitch, and the only singer, any type music, to have a number one hit in each of the last 6 decades

Thats for sure. The whole group of Outlaws were something that probably cant be duplicated. Cant forget ol Merle Haggard either. George Strait and Alan Jackson are on their way to being even bigger legends than they are now. Keith Whitley had some pretty good songs as well. The 80s and early to mid 90s were a pretty good time for country music.

I listen to a bit of everything but mostly rock.
FleetWood Mac, 3 Doors Down, Ferras, Blue Rodeo, U2, Poison, Guns N' Roses, Alice Cooper, Lifehouse, Buckcherry, FaberDrive, SnowPatrol, Augustana, Beatles, MeatLoaf and a bunch more...

I met Rhonda Vincent a few years ago, both her and Ricky Scaggs, and she was a very nice, good looking woman. When she and her band, the Rage took the stage, it was incredible.

Merle Haggard played at our local little outdoor venue last summer. My son is asst. editor of the local paper, and he asked Merle's manager if he could interview Merle for a story. "Sure", said the manager, "after the show", and gave him a backstage pass. Merle put on a good show- he's showing his age a bit, but can still put it out there when he wants to. Also had some fun with the crowd. The show ended in the usual way- star leaves during the song, backup band continues playing, crowd claps and yells for an encore. As we're clapping and yelling, a bus starts up directly behind the stage, and roars outta there. Kid and I just look at each other and laugh- the crowd's encore, and son's interview, just headed south. Reckon ol' Merle had fun, but maybe just not THAT much fun.
