I have a 656 which the 3pt will not lift over 500 lbs. I rebuilt the control valve, replaced o-ring on piston, relief valve is ok. Still no lift.
I have read on here that the rear pump feeds the 3pt and the front pump feeds remotes and steering.A mechanic at the local IH dealer tells me front pump feeds 3pt and remotes and rear pump feeds steering and lubrication.I am lost who is right?

Your mechanic needs to read the service manual!!!!!

Front pump feeds P/S and remotes. Piggy back pump on back feeds the 3pt hitch. Internal plumbing is arranged so that the back pump can feed into the remote circuit when the hitch is not in use. HTH

according to I/T manual, the pump that supplies the three point,is mounted on the left side of the clutch housing.which therefore would be the front pump.the rear pump would then supply the remotes and steering.I have lost the steering part of my book, but,i dont find where thier is a rear pump

Isnt there two pressure reliefs? One for the remotes and one for the hitch? Do you know where the hitch pressure relief is? I think mine is getting weak.

Ok, then where is the relief for the remotes? We had trouble with the remotes and the dealer came out and put a new pressure relief in, and now the remotes work much better, but the hitch is still weak.
Thanks!

Relief for the remotes is in the transfer block between the draft control housing and the remote valves. From the back of the tractor look for a 1 1/8 hex plug at about a 45 deg angle just to the left of the remote valve(s). Only 1 1/8 hex in that area. Scrape dirt and paint, shouild be marked with a part # and "1600" if it has not been changed.

THANK YOU very much. I have been trying to figure that out for a while. My hitch is weak so I think I might try a new hitch pressure relief valve.
