We'll be hearing about tbis guy run over soon. I also like he sprays a bunch of ether in it before he even rolls it over.

I had a farm truck once which needed to be started by jumping the solenoid. Cheap easy solution: two wires and a push start button mounted in the cab. Does the same thing without the screwdriver.

Well, at least he is aware of the danger. Near the beginning of the movie:

"Make sure I'm out of gear. That'd be awful."

Kevin

Chris, this might be a dumb question, but the time it took to run wires and a pusbutton to the dash, couldn"t the solenoid be replaced? Of course, I"ve rigged up worse things...

There was a man killed here last spring when his truck wouldn't start. He must have thought the switch was bad and crawled underneath to jump the starter. It was a Chevy with an automatic transmission. Turns out the truck wouldn't start because it was in reverse but it did start with him under it and it ran over his head.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people will spend more time and money jury rigging some Rube Goldberg fix than it would take to fix it right in the first place.

BTW, once when the conversation led into it, I asked my Alpha female if I ever told her about the time I was run over by my own pickup.

She replied, "No, and I don't want to hear about it."

As for the tractor guy, he's not really in any more danger than some of you guys with flywheel start jd's or crank start farmalls, cases and others, now is he!? Seriously. Now, to be fair, my old dodge truck is wired up with the starter button in the cab instead of replacing the solonoid because I couldn't get it replaced for less than $68.50 and it took me 10 minutes and about 15 bucks to make it all work. It's not a Cadillac for pete's sake, but darn it, it works.

Try telling that to some of the tractor owners (I'm not talking about collectors/restorers) around here. If one buys an old tractor, expect to find a lot of unnessary rigged crap.
