Engine oil in rad

I have a john deere 2130 with engine oil in the rad.I have had the engine oil cooler tested and came back ok.Any othe ideas. Can oil get in the water where it comes up to feed the rocker arms?

Possibilities include: engine oil cooler, head gasket, head crack, sleeve o-ring. Are you sure its engine oil? Could it be transmission/hydrolic oil? Tell us more. Tom

I have had the engine oil cooler checked and is ok.The transmission cooler is seperate and is only cooled with air.A head crack may be possible but a o-ring on a sleeve should just let antifreeze into the base ,not oil in the rad

I've never posted on this board before, but I read it often.I'm dealing with this issue right now on a 85 gmc pickup with a 6.2litre engine.please don't let this go, I first noticed oil in the radiator, then I couldnt keep water in the radiator, and finly it blew out the bottom of the radiator. I got the radiator fixed and reinstaled it, then I decided to pull the heads and see what was going on , the head bolt in the very center of the left head was broken off about one forth inch above the head deck.

your last gues may be correct,if oil passes trough a bore in the block up trough the head to the valvetrain it could leak trough the head gasket into a coolant passage.they are usually not that far apart.oil press is higher than the water press.

Hello Jim Reeks
I am not familiar with that engine. The oil cooler having been tested good, I would take a good look at the gaskets or o'rings for the same./
Its easy enough to roll an o'ring that separates oil and coolant passeges.Oil pressure being more then coolant pressure will allow oil to go into your radiator. When the engine is off you may also have coolant going into the cranckase.
Crack the pan plug Ist thing in the morning and see if water is getting into the pan as well.
Guido.
