Roller bearings

I'm in need of some straight roller bearings.
I'm restoring an old farm wagon running gear and it has straight roller bearings. rollers are 3/8 " and the shaft they fit over is 1 5/8 ".
The bearing measures about 3" overall.
Any ideas?
 
I worked for a few years for Minnesota Bearing
company. The Amish were always coming in trying
to locate bearings of this type, for mowers
and old farm machinery. IH/McCormick mowers use
this type of axle bearings. I never had much
luck finding anything for the mowers, though
we did have, (in 1988) a catalog of such bearings
but I can't remember the name anymore.
There was a firm supplying the antique auto
hobby, that had odd bearings. Model T Fords may
have used such a bearing. Purchase a copy of
"Hemmings Motor News" and search the advertisers,
you may find a supplier there. Also note that
some stuff comes from eastern europe where the
horse is still used in farming, and they are
many years behind us in technology.
 
Get ahold of Packers Supply or whoever they evolved into. There were a lot of those type bearings used in carts and wagons of sorts in packinghouses a few years back. They may be able to help.
 
Can you find some cold rolled 3/8 inch shaft? For your use and speed it may last a long time. Pack it with grease.
 
Steel suppliers have material called drill rod, It comes in many sizes, .375 is one for sure. As supplied, it is annealed(soft enough to cut with a hack saw if you take it easy). When cut to length, the new rollers need to be hardened. Usually, heated uniformly until medium red, then quenched in water (sometimes oil check the manufacturer's data) then polished with 400 grit, then 600 grit, then buffed. They are then very hard, like, or harder than, the originals. Use marfax #2 wheel bearing grease on them to help them last. JimN
