I am considering buying a farmall a but it has a problem that i'm not familiar with. if you start it in neutral,then depress the clutch,it will grind and not go in gear. if you start it in gear then let the clutch out, it will make a rattling noise until the clutch is all the way out.

Clutch(or worse) is probably out. Hope youre getting it cheap!

Hello,
sounds like a bad clutch or throwout bearing. it is not hard to change out that clutch, a clutch kit with bearings is around $175.

May be as simple as the clutch is full of a mouse nest. Recently had the same problem with an old Fargo truck. Just cleaned it all out, and everything was fine.

THANKS GUYS, I'M REALLY HOPING ITS SOMETHING SIMPLE. BUY THE WAY WHEN I WENT TO CRANK IT OVER 2 MICE AND A WAD OF NEST CAME OUT OF A HOLE IN THE BELL HOUSING. AND YES I'M GETTING IT CHEAP I THINK. IT HAS 4 NEW TIRES AND YOU CAN'T BUY THE TIRES FOR WHAT I'M GIVING.
