Went with my brother today and had some materials loaded on his truck with a forklift, the roof had a opening slot cut out in the Rop's I asked the guy why he didn't know. I checked images on google and they have them to, so I'am sure it would be a factory setup any thoughts you people are the smartest with equipment heres a link to a photo of what i mean Thanks Sean http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:gGz61bl0xVQHmM:http://www.rabidsquirrel.net/funny2/forklift.jpg

If it was and electric forklift it is to replace battery .one forklift or other lift would take battery out and replace with fresh so lift could continue to work while first battery was charging. if it was not electric I suspect maybe rops was from an electric lift.Paul

Thanks Skip I never would have guessed that was the reason, I checked a webb site and saw some batteries weight near #1000 lb, Thanks again Sean

We had 1 Cat electric forklift where I used to work that had a 36 volt battery that weighed in at 6000 lbs. This weight was printed on the caution label on the side of the battery. And yes it did have a cut-out in the overhead as we changed batteries once per shift.

The cut out is so you can look for overhead obstructions while operating as many I have been on had .

Cut out is definitely for changing batteries, overhead hoist goes in to lift it out sideways using the cut out. The seat and battery cover top usually hinge forward of backward depending on the model.
