propane tractor

Probably just need to find a gasoline carburetor, fuel tank and bracket, and associated plumbing for that model of tractor. Strip off all the propane equipment and plug off coolant which heated the liquid to gas manifold. May need to fill in some cuts in the sheet metal. Retard the spark just a little and adjust plug gap.

What brand and model is the LP? If it's a MM maybe I have a gasoline tractor to trade parts with you, I'd just as soon have an LP tractor. Thanks, John

(quoted from post at 04:44:49 10/28/08) Can you turn a propane tractor in to a gas tractor and if so how much trouble is it to do?

It can be done. How much work is involved can vary greatly depending on the tractor.

Differences in a propane fueled tractor may some or many of the following things.

Fuel system from the tank mounts, tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, carburetor. Intake and exhaust manifolds may be different. Governor linkage.

Cylinder head may have higher compression. Valve rotators may be removed or made inoperative. Valve angle and seat width may be different.

Pistons may be higher compression. Piston rings may be plain cast iron rather than chrome plated.

Distributor timing most likely is different along with the advance curve. Spark plugs are probably a heat range or two cooler. Plug gap is likely to be smaller.

Starter may be heavier for a propane engine if the compression was increased.

I saw a 560 Farmall on tractorh***.com that had been converted from lpg to gas. The guy modified the propane tank to use as a gasoline tank instead of changing the hood and adding a gas tank, just changed carb and manifold. The lpg tank holds 40 gal. liquid. It's still on the website, but they don't show the right side of the tractor.

I saw a 450 on an auction a few years ago the same way. Looked like he just changed the carb and fuel line along with putting the gas cap on the tank.

Thanks for the information. The tractor is a MM G. What kind of tractor do you have. I also need to know the weight of the tractor as iam fixing it t pull in the heavy classes. Let me know if the tractor matches mine and if you still might be interested in trading.

Yes a propane tractor can be converted to a gas tractor.

Below is a photo of "Vernon" our 1956 Model 70.

A previous owner made the changeover.

Obvious changes are the dash pedestal and the hood.

The serial tag has the "LP" stamp on it.

why in the world would you want to fool with a gas tractor ??..LP pulls more ..starts easier..very hard to steal ..plus the motor will last forever..LP gas has a lube in it that will keep your engine so clean you can eat off the inside...LP tractor will sit for years & the gas not go bad ..no rusted up gunkey carb. to mess with...smells good when running ..LP is the only way to go ...Kent

Owen pretty much nailed it, our MF-65 had been converted before I purchased it.

The engine runs fine and has good power, but after having worked with propane fired engines, I never really fully adjusted to seeing used engine oil coming out looking like the new oil going in...

Weird!
