Was going to order a general repair /maintaince manual for my Ford 600 and got confused, what is the difference in a REPAIR manuel vs a SERVICE manual vs SHOP manual. Seems like a lot of possible overlap. Is there a lot of cross over info that would just be duplicated. Thanks for replies !

If I ever get another manual, It will have to be a repair man. it will give you so much more info. than a serv. man. can. I got a serv. man. once to rebuild a engine and gave me no where near enough info. to do the job . a repair man. will give you all that you would need plus more. thats my experiance with them. Larry

I would still get some more oppions though, I got mine on line through some out fit and when I got it , all it was , was a copy cat book that was thrown together and gave me no where enough info. and the pages werent even in numercal order. You might try the Y/T mans. maybe they will help you. (never seen one yet) Good luck! Larry

The Repair Manual Shows you most of the information you need sometimes omitting a very small but important feature that causes you to have to take a basket case to have it fixed.

The Service Manual Touches on some of the same things but is more likely to give more detail to Preventive Maintenance.

The Shop Manual will give you a better profile such as the Mechanics use.

There is a great write up (Searching for Information)in the Nov-Dec 2008 Red Power magazine about different manuals. Yes it talks about Red tractors, but I have found that most colors have two or more manuals. There is overlap, but I have also found that I have to read most everything at least twice anyway. Exploded views are the greatest.

Thanks fellows, just didn't want to tie up $100 + in various books when all I wanted was a good general book without all the complicated micro's since I'm not getting deep in the engine, just basic repairs, service, capacities etc. Thanks for your time and suggestions.

One of the problems with the various manuals is different companies/publishers (and sometimes the same company, like Wauk) use the terms "maintenance" "operators" "service" "overhaul" etc interchangeably; before buying you have to ask about number of pages, chapter or section headings, illustrations etc, to have an idea if you"re getting a "hit the high spots" "manual" or a real "shop" overhaul manual with all the (then) known idiosyncrasies and helpful hints.
