Heater Blows Hotter, anyone heard of it?

A few days ago I posted about possibly needing a cooling system flush but the replies I got said it's a waste of money. I went into a parts store and found some stuff called "Heater Blows Hotter" by Pro-Blend Motorsports Products. It claims it makes the heater blow hotter faster. It wasn't cheap at $15.99 for 28 oz. but looking on the web, Pro-Blend had some good reviews on other products they make. Of course nothing on what I bought. It seemed to make a big difference but wasn't really cold today. I'll know better tomorrow cause it's supposed to get colder overnight. It says it's a cooling system stabilizer and safe to use. Has anybody else ever heard of this stuff before? Dave

Dave, I havent ever heard of "heater blows hotter".. Ive been a auto. mechanic for over 25 years, and I still like the old power flush trick myself, Works every time. Let us know how it works.. Larry

They make some other stuff for race cars that's supposed to lower the temperature by 40 deg. I was getting pretty hot air out of the heater today, so I'll have to see how it works when it's colder. It also looks like my temp. gauge went up just slightly. Maybe the stuff is just a really good cleaner? I'll let you know how it works in the cold. Dave

I've never heard of tha product but I'd expect that anything that helped clean the internals of the cooling system will help the heater work more efficiently. It's just another little radiator...

At Diesel & Heavy Equipment Tech school, in the
60s, they advised using WASHING SODA to flush
engines. After draining anti-freeze, add about 1
cup of washing soda dissolved in a ice cream
pail of warm water. It"s a dry powder so it must
be dissolved first. Then add water to fill the
cooling system and run the engine to circulate.
Drain and flush a few times. it"s AMAZING the
crud that will flush out. Washing Soda is found
by detergents in the super market. It is made
by Arm and Hammer, and others, but IS NOT the
same as bicarbinate of soda.

Day late here but my 2 cents (worth about 1 1942 tax token now).
If it breaks loose the crud so you get better flow through the core(more heat) then it needs to be drained to get rid of the crud. Most Antifreeze starts to lose it lubricating properties after a couple seasons. A regular flush and new coolant is cheapest and best. Just like an oil change, it will extend the life of the engine and components. Again-- my 2 cents- Bob

On a road trip once, my heater core plugged. I stopped at a coin wash and flushed the core in both directions with the pulsing water. That fixed it.

heres the directions for washing soda flushing from an old tractor repair manual. works pretty good!
