Problems with Tractor Starting

I own a 1992 Signature 2000 Elite 18HP 42 inch cutting deck.I am having a problem with starting it, the battery is new, and it just turns over very slowly. Does anybody have a solultion to my problem.. I do not want to take it to a repair shop, just to wind up a BIG BILL.

Thanks in advance
Roy

Clean up ALL battery cable connections (BOTH ends).

Set the valves. (You didn't mention what engine it has. On some small air-cooled engines, valve settings are critical to a compression release mechanism working to release compression for easier cranking.)

If the battery is new and charged up, there are three things that might cause slow cranking. Cables and connections (including the Starter relay)
A bad motor with dragging armature.
And a engine that is hard to turn from either a partial seizure, or thick oil.
Try jumping it with a Auto battery pos to pos, neg to neg. If it whirls it is a bad new battery, or not charged before use when purchased.
If that also is weak, clean all connections and look at the condition of the cables and Relay. They can have internal corrosion not readily visible. Clean all connections shiny bright, then spray with LPS corrosion inhibitor.
If it is the motor, a replacement, or new might be needed. Take it to a repair shop.
The engine oil should be 10-30 wt. if thicker, it will be an issue.
Was it running perfectly when it was operating, what caused you to replace the battery? JimN

They have a machine they hook them up to secure it in and put the plexi-glasscover down and can put it under load my van starter was fine until they put it under load, put in a new starter W/lifetime warranty-no extra charge works great.

you didn't happen to just change the drive belt, did you? I swapped drive belts on my cub cadet, got one of the high dollar super think green ones, and it apparently rubbed the steel tabs designed to keep the belton the pulley under load. It was enough of a drag that i thought I had a dead battery...
