JD belts made in China

I just bought a JD belt and it says made in China. The belt drives the blades on mower. When did JD start buying belts from China? Are they as good as the other Chinnese junk?

Supposedly, and I mean SUPPOSEDLY, the quality is should be according to specifications ordered by the buyer. If the "buyer" is trying to make a name for himself within a company, and save even more for the stockholders, then who knows what you get?

A little bit OT but along the same lines...

I've always wanted one of the Woolrich "Railroad Vests," the ones they tout in their catalog as an "Historical Garment," one of the first products Woolrich ever made. However, didn't really want to spend their asking price.

Well, last Thursday, I was at a Woolrich "outlet" at "The Crossings" in Tannersville, PA. "Railroad Vests" were on sale, 30% off. So! I buys one of these "Historical Garments" and guess what? This Woolrich "Historical Garment" was made.... guess where? I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count. You got it!! Label inside says.... "Made in China!"

I like it, but........????

.....oney. Deere buys the belts from a Chinese subcontractor because that's where Mother Deere can pocket the most money. US manufactured belts are still available at prices well below what Deere charges for same/simular belt. It's about bottom line.

Manufacturers are buying Chinese because of the American public. The American public went into OEM dealer, priced product, cried it was too high, went to local auto/farm store, bought a will fit belt for 1/2 price, not realizing also at 1/4 quality, but, dammit, they got it cheaper than at OEM/dealer. so that OEM is selling 4 times better quality part at double price, but are ripping the customer off. Now the OEM has cheap price, like the aftermarket, but now the American buyer will complain, he got a cheap price, but it just don't last as long as parts used to. This is one of the reasons the economy is in the shape it is in, no body wants to pay the price of American made produucts, they claim it is just too high. But don't want to loose American jobs!
I get this all the time, the American made equipment I sell is too high......so they buy cheap chinese crap, then whine and cry when it breaks down in a few years or months, and can't get parts for their chinese junk!
So, the American public needs to decide...support America....or support China.....

Prove that to me with facts! It is not just Deere, it is from about every OEM in the US. AYP/Husquvarna/Poulan, one of worlds largest lawn mower manufacturers, now sells a lot of chinese made belts at 1/2 the price of what US made belts used to sell for, because the customer cried their belts were too high.

Blame Congress with EPA, OSHA, Dept. Of Labor, Unions, Ect. We also need Tort reform. Until this are fixed, all muanufacturing will go offshore. Get used to it. The minorities control this country.

I work at a GM dealer our brake rotors used to come from Canada. They all of a sudden they come from China GM changed the part numbers BUT NOT THE PRICES !!! They are just as high as ever. Same with other items. THEY ARE NOT PASSING THE SAVINGS ALONG.

Prove YOUR arguement with "facts" and not your anticdotal story about other brands. ANY brand can sell foriegn made products to increase their bottom line.

But you can't convince those who won't listen. It's all about cost vs list price and how that equates to profit.

Last belt I bought for my 322 jd mower was made in usa. Before some were from Mexico. Like someopne said was 20some dollars now 34. I use only farmstore belts on grass catcher as the JD were never the same letengh sp. those were mexican. John Deere is not all an american company sad to say

Sure they would, if they had no choice. Why do people purchase the US made JD tractors if that's the case? Why are the smaller JD's made in India, or wherever, other than the Japanese Yanmars? If JD only sold american made products, they'd be hurting really bad too. JD sources out more product than anyone else and you can bet that a lot comes from China. Dave

John, what used to be considered the minority, is quickly becoming the majority. Pretty soon now, the white middle class will be the new minority.

We as Americans do not want to pay high prices for the JD belt. The high prices are due to company CEO's taking $12 million a year bonuses and the unions trying to get more pay for less work... So, JD goes to China to produce a similar belt. As for pricing JD is trying to make up for slow sales.

I personally would buy a Gates or Goodyear belt instead of the OEM. More that likely higher quality and will last longer.

hehe hey now don't be hating. Someone has to pay for those big bonuses and corporate jets the execs and their wives get to use all the time... Surely you don't think they are gonna take a pay cut do you?? I mean come on. they are worth it! I'm not sure why but Im sure thats what they told the company when they were hired.

It's funny how when my dad's companies business is slow he and his partner cut back and stuff but when large corporations business is slow they just ask for money from the government and keep giving the top execs their salaries. Maybe someday they will figure out why working people don't care if they don't get thier 50 million bonus this year...

I haven't seen anyone mention that the wages in China are only a dollar or two a day. How can the American workers compete?

JD has always been higher than other American brands. Their OEM isn't any better than other American companies, they just charge more.
So what justifies their higher prices?
A lot of people always talk the consumer, but when I leave the house to spend family money I don't go find the highest priced items. Other countries have consumer protection built into their government, ours is sell out the consumer and his job.
Here's a little video about a new Ford plant, they didn't say how much they were paying the Brazilians.
Maybe your customers don't know they're buying cheap Chinese crap, I didn't know about their tractors till I read it here.

Just open up your computer (Dell?) , cell phone, etc, etc, that is American Made, see what you find inside.

Something else just as sad. A motion was put foreword in Congress last week to stop buying US flags made in China!

How low our pride has sunk, to even accept this to happen
