O/T Big Headrests On Newer Trucks

I Have a 2007 Chevy 3/4 Ton Extended Cab. I'm Kinda Short and the Headrests are hard to see around, I took them off the back of seat, is this against the law to not have them in the vehicle? I know a rear end collision might cause whiplash.
Anyone else have a problem with these?

I have a problem with certain protruding dodge and chrysler headrests, they are huge and space shuttle like.. and yes, I do see what you're talking about as I am 5'9"

They are whiplash preventers, as they have some sort of springing cushion thing that absorbs energy.

Just don't have an accident.

Your risk, your business. Just keep in mind that if a passenger in your truck were to get a bad whiplash and sue, you would loose the farm, your insurance company would not stand behind you since you have removed safety equipment. This is like removing the pto shaft cover and the neighbor getting cauught in the spinning shaft. Better get them back on. Tom

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have an 08 Ford and they drive me nuts. I left the ones in the back...but I had to turn the ones in the front around. They are there, but I am 6'4" and the darn things always pushed my head froward.
I ask the dealer why invent such a headrest and he said the government mandate says to do it.

Are a problem to me, when backing up, especially when backing with a trailer or even worse a wagon. Backing with mirrors just doesn"t make it!

I know my '03 3500 Ram has headrests that make it impossible to sit back in the seat whilst wearin' a cowboy hat. Now, I ask you, what kind of pickup is that?

Girlfriend had an Audi A6 where the back seat headrests took up so much of the view out the rear-view mirror that I took them out. I use mirrors a lot, but the blind spot on the right side of that thing was bad enough just with the C-pillar, and the headrest was big enough and placed so that the rear-view was useless as a first and last check before moving to the right.

I don't like them either. But I have whiplash from a wreck in 1980, even with the headrest. I promise you, you don't want whiplash unless you own stock in Tylenol or Advil because you will eat them like candy from the headaches whiplash causes.

Bill has it right.

Government standards. They help to prevent neck injuries in a rear-end collision.
