the "winning" bid at an auction? Some of my "winning" bids were not winners.lol. Should we say the top bid instead ? Its a cold, snowy morning here.

For municipal work, we get to hear: Apparrent high bid /bidder'

when the results are certified.. the bid is awarded.. etc..

I think its because its a battle between people (money war) ... Some one has to be a "Winner" at that game.... One auction I went to years ago , There was 2 old oil barrels and a 4x8 sheet of plywood , all area was coverd with weeds about 3-4 foot. no one was bidding on this lot , and the auctioneer said 5 dollars and clean up the area , so just for kicks I bought it.. as I lifted the ply wood to clean up , I found 150 pounds of copper under there..... Best 5 bucks I ever spent.....
