OT: Train derail Colchester IL

My mail route is in Colchester, as I was getting ready for work the radio said derail in Colchester, all crossings blocked. I was afraid of the worst, all the businesses, the post office, and the fire station south of the tracks are only about 100 feet from the tracks. The ones on the other side are at least 200 feet. They got lucky, all it did was tear out all three crossings and only two cars actually came off the tracks. I have seen some MAJOR derailments back in Nebraska in and east of Alexandria, NE that would have taken out a lot had it been on the same scale. DOUG
 

When I was a kid, we lived next to the railroad tracks (less than 100 ft). A train derailed about 12 cars scattered over about a quarter mile with one stopping about 50 ft from my bedroom window and I slept through it. Tore a bunch of stuff up though.

Are you a city carrier or a rural carrier? I'm a substitute rural carrier, and when I get out on the road, it is the best part of the day for me.

you need a backup vehicle or right hand drive unit. Do mail carry here also have a 2003 chevy blazer for sale two steering wheels brakes etc if interested still on the route. Were just starting over a again on another vehicle when i get it setuo with lights and sign.
 
you want a right hand drive vehicle for subing,they sure make life easier on your body. Just thought let you know carry mail here also and have a 2003 chevy blazer on route for sale it has two steering brakes etc for the route,would be great for a part timer,it is still on the route today. It will become backup for us since we just starting over again with another vehicle when I get the lights and sign on the new unit.
 
Well at least with the new four lane you can get into town from the south and stay off of the tracks. I missed it because I didn`t go into Yetter Tue but I will be there Friday. Kevin
