What would you do???

I've been looking at an Allis D19 with a loader to accompany my other tractors. I've got a D17 which will do everything I need, except a loader. I've got a Ford 5000 with a loader, but I've got some items to take care of before it is fully functional.

I'm trying to talk myself into buying the D19. What I usually say to myself is that if the price is good enough, then if I decide that I need the money for something else later, I can always sell it. Trouble is, I never sell stuff and just scrape money up if I really need it for something else.

My wife is fine with buying it, if it is necessary for the farm. The price is good, as far as it goes. I was going to test it out last weekend with a tow behind brush cutter, but got knocked off my feet with something like the flu.

I've got time to look it over again and try it out this weekend. I'm just going back and forth on whether to take the plunge.

So what would you do???

Christopher

If its something that you really need and you just cant work without it then I would not think twice about it... If its gonna just sit in your farm and not do any thing but add to your collection then I would really have to think about it ... But , That is my opinion and how I look at things... Good Luck and I am sure you will make the right choice... Larry

A teacher in highschool told us one time;

"If in doubt mark it out".

He said that was his motto when grading papers. Basically what he said is if he has to think if the answer is right then he won't accept it. He later became the principle over some 3,000 students after I graduated

My motto thru experience has been if you can't come to a decision give it time and it will come. It's kind of like the old saying; The harder I try the behinder I get".

The price may be right but you get what you pay for!

Do you need it>??? The D17 will do everything except no loader, ford has a loader. You own them both. Spend a dollar on the Ford, Wife says " if necessary for the farm" You have stated it's not needed. don't alienate the missus..

put the money into the ford 5000, it sounds like you have the bases covered with the tractors you have. i would buy it if i really planned on selling it and making some pocket money but i dont do that much. just a thought

There is no cheaper HP to be bought than in a D-19. It is half again more tractor than you D-17 and it is more fuel effecient than the D-17. In fact the D-19 is in the upper 25% of tractors tested in Nebraska as far as fuel effeciency goes. Lots of people must think the D-19 is just too big for them because you can often sell one of the smaller D series tractors for enough to buy 2 D-19s. I did exactly that with a D-14. Don't walk, RUN out and get the D-19! But, make sure you check it over and know what you are getting. You know some people can tear up an anvil with a rubber hammer.

A D-19 is the cheapest horse power you can buy in a tractor. I guess it is considered either too big or too little my most people. Check it over for the usual AC issues, and then load it up and take it home. If you want to you should be able to sell your D-17 for twice what the D-19 should cost you. I did that with a D-14 a few years ago. Got well over twice the tractor for an even half the money.

When possible I wait before making a buying decision.

If you're not sure - don't.

However, there are those times you keep kicking yourself because you didn't.
