not much to bid on anymore, its almost all buy it now. but the buy it now price is more than what you can buy it at a home town store. plus you have to pay shipping. what are they thinking?

(quoted from post at 20:44:23 12/18/08) what are they thinking?

That someone will eventually pay it...If not, they'll lower the price and post it again. If you are looking for something in particular, you might try Amazon.

It's been taken over by merchants. I haven't been there in months, even just to browse.

Folks with one item to sell have moved on to Craig's List.

I've read that the market has changed. People don't want to bother with bidding and would much rather prefer a fixed price.

Look, everything goes down the tubes when you see "bail bonds" (so I call them) being given to corporate CEOs.

4000 points down on the dow... eBay stock futures down 30% or so, do the math, and you'll see less activity on eBay.

And yes, merchants charge more for merchandise simply because you pay shipping. It's easier now to go somewhere and buy something... provided you have the money to get it.

Fleabay has gone the route of most over bloated big companies. Millions of dollars to executive packages, large numbers of un-productive employees, demanding stockholders the list goes on. Who takes it in the seat of the pants? The little guy that is trying to make or save a buck, But just like the automakers and most other American business's are finding out, the little guy has options and he just moves on. I did some business on ebay, but found it was more cost effective not to bother. The listing fees will bankrupt you now and disputes are always slanted in favor of the buyer. Try to get an answer to a question. Craigs list will stomp ebay under until somebody else comes along doing business much in the same way ebay first started out. Ebay from my perspective is a dead dog.

The time is here for someone to set up a new on-line auction, like the old Ebay... Once a good alternate comes up. Ebay will fall by the wayside in a few years..

you can pay anyway you want,ASK THE SELLER, i think some people are afraid of ebay,if they wont take a usps money order, f-em

i have a little 35 diesel with the 3 cylinder perkins and that thing is really great on fuel and a very versatile little tractor

Have you noticed they don't even show you who won the item any more. Used to be they showed who was bidding, Then they cut that out but still showed who won. Now not even that.
Also have you noticed the extra advertising?
When I search for Ford for example there are several pages of auctions. But between the last item on the page and where you click for the next page there is always "featured ads" now.
Ebay used to be fun but they've made some poor decisions lately that will hurt them.

I agree I think the trouble comes in where there are a lot of scammers out there offering up a tractor for auction and it turns out to be a toy.The word gets out fast and I think a lot of poeple are going back to the old fashioned way of going to see the item and "kicking the tires"

Last summer I purchased a old brake pedal for a case s. The winning bid was ten dollars. It cost me twenty five dollars for shipping, forty dollars for brokerage fee then the canadian goverment estimated its value at ninety dollars and charged me another twenty five. The only reason I bought the article was I couldnt get one here. It was a total rip off.

A lot depends on what you are looking for I keep two searches going that email me what's new on Saab Sonett and Case LA I like this feature.

I wanted to get the wife something pretty so went to EBay and found a very nice 1939 Bulova ladies watch in 14K gold with 4 small rubies and completely refurbished for $125 including shipping. One has to look around to get good deals and buy what others don't want.
Hard to get highly wanted items have always gone for the big bucks. I once paid $200 for a tiny little Saab Sonett model kit it was $100 less than one that was put together and painted. After building mine I can see why.

NOT to defend ebay (got enough beefs about them myself), however, if you had purchased the part from ANY other US source, would not the shipping, brokerage, and duty been the same?

HOW are the shipping costs and costs imposed by YOUR government the fault of ebay?

Ebay is evolving as internet auctions are cooling off, they've adjusted accordingly. They offer the buyer more protection than a regular classified ad.

Never had a bad buying experience on Ebay, but on Craigslists, can't seem to buy anything. Still waiting for the dud to get back to me on the 40hp boat motor shaft length and some dud is selling insulation board that his buddy is getting from his boss and they've been selling it according to this dud, but I can't get past him to the people that are actually selling.

Try to use the postal service for bringing goods into Canada. Canada Post charges 5.00 handling fee and the tax on the goods converted to canadian currency. They use the value stated on the customs form. No brokerage fee.

e-bay has some glaring problems of late. It is way too obvious that more than a few sellers have their wives & kids etc run up the bid. The bidder profile will say all past bidding was on women's shoes etc or kiddy dvd's and this one tractor bid. Now some sellers list private bidders only. There are a couple of auction businesses that have some kind of auction going within the e-bay auction. They want way too much info from you in order to bid on those items plus an additional buyer's fee. If you go to one of their live auctions and compare bids there & bids reported on the e-bay side, they don't always jive. Some of these sellers aren't smart enough to wait a few hours-when their phony bid tops yours, they offer you a second chance within minutes. No way the top bidder decided not to take the item. Hard to police. Unfortunately many real buyers are turned off I've bought about 22 tractors on e-bay, but few recently. Used to be wholesale but now the dealers are making it retail.

This summer I was bidding on a front cover for a John Deer A tractor. The bid went crazy and bidding was fast. I stayed on it cause I wanted it and went to far for what I thought it should be worth. Then more high bids and I backed off.
When it closed and I lost. I got a letter from the guy offering it for my last bid!... Ticked me off and I did not get it nor want it then. Have not been back to bid since.
