Now these are a response to a previous post.

The name of these tractors is Bungartz Made in Munich Germany Had VW 40 hp engines and transmissions in them.

Here's one of your pictures that Gary posted. You can easily post them by placing the picture web sites in the Optional Image URL and using a comma between each weh web site.

I got this picture web site off the picture by "right" clicking the picture and "left" clicking on "Properties". Hal

I heard the Amish made a power source for their baler using a VW engine. They're excellent craftsman. Hal

im not here to knock the amish but come on they build something like that to run a baler whats the point. seems like alot of bull to me just a way to get around there system.

Seeing the picture of the baler set up raises a question for me. How do the Amish handle bales that size with mules? Seems like it would be a lot of work without a lift of some sort. Anyone have a picture of them doing this?

I their beliefs they can't farm for them selves with our world machinery.

Some who own a tractor only for stationary balers and haul the hay or straw to them.

Others have things like El Toro posted to be able to sell their crops they don't use, in another form that is better for our usage.

Thrashing machines are almost extinct now so some have combines that have their own motors and can use them behind horses. Saw that on RFD TV

They will only use these til they can find a way to put a PTO on the horse.---I made a funny.[grin]

only a matter of time till they find a way to justify the use of a computer, i suppose if they strap it to a horses back then it would be okay. oh wait, can u imagine them riding a horse using one of the gps navigation systems... lol

Seems to be a leeeeeeeeeeeetle bit of jealousy towards the Amish. Only thing I've ever noticed when I drove by an Amish community whether in Missouri, Ohio, or Pennsylvania, I couldn't help but notice the drastic change when I crossed that imaginary line from Bubbaland. Places were clean and orderly without hanging shingles and gates. No cars on blocks in the front yard doubling as a dog house. Granted, they don't have cars, but no buggies were filling in. Any kids you saw were usually clean and tidy.

just an observation.

Dave

The Amish in Southern Illinois use tractors for transportation, but never on Sunday. Also have phones, electricity, etc. Women use buggies, two wheel carts, never have seen them operate a tractor.

Paul

Paul around here they do drive tractors and do logging work driving skidders and dozers and what ever for employers but wont drive anything on their own land for their support.

You know I have nothing against the Amish, but never have understood why they do what they do. I go to church most of the time, have for 50 some years, and I never heard any bible passage to the effect that "Ye must only farm with donkeys". I know it has someting to do with living as simply as possible, but that new JD baler kinda defeats that purpose.

I think the Amish are doing something right.

We all "pine" for the good 'ole days, but when a group of people are actually DOING it like the good old days, we call 'em crazy!

I farm with tractors, but I have two Belgians that I give wagon rides with. I tried the horse-farmer thing, but it didn't work for me...

...but I think I've figured that out: To be a horse farmer, like the Amish, you have to be TOTALLY committed to the lifestyle. I still had my job "in town", and I just don't think you can do horse farming "halfways" like that.

I've known several Amish and read a couple of books about them; they're really fascinating. Have you ever made a deal with one of those guys? He'll pull out a roll of cash that would make any big-city "pimp" cry. They have a community fund for medical bills, so they're self-insured. They work like hell, they take care of their elders, they worship God.

Maybe they look at us like we're the strange ones!
