O/T Toy Steam Toys

I have a Wilesco "Atomic" steam engine that is about 40 years old, as well as a Mamod steamroller of the same era, both given to me by my late Uncle when I was a kid.

Both still work. my older boys weren't much interested in them (they DO like the REAL ones at shows, though). I have to drag them out of storage and show them to the nine year old (perhaps this weekend).

Bob, That Atomic power plant is the coolest Steam Toy I have ever seen! My nephew has a boiler and sawmill to run with it but have never seen the Atomic one! Great toy! Thanks for sharing!

The electrical power switch is the "control rods" on top of the "reactor" at the right rear of the photo.

Kinda NEAT. Folks sure had a different idea of the future of "nuke" power in the late 50's into the 60's.

Here is a sight that makes small steam engines close to me . I never even knew it was there til I saw it on History Channel.

I've got one of those steam rollers too. Mine had the roof on it though. It's at least as old as yours is if not a few years older. Got mine for Christmas back in the 60s too.

Jim H,
When I was a kid in early 1950s my dad bought me a model steam engine. It is a Jensen brand. In 2002 I had to go thru Pennsylvania and looked up the Jensen Co. in Jeannette. They were great people; fixed up a leak on the water level gauge.
I have an old #5, very simple one. They got all excited when they saw such an old one and wanted to buy it. I get that thing running about every 5 yrs, sure is fun to listen to it purr. When I was young I would make a windmill out of Tinkertoys, hook up the steam engine with a long rubber band belt and open "er up and watch the windmill disintegrate!

I made a steam turbine using a paint can (as the boiler) when I was a kid, from plans I found in a book titled The Boys Book of Engines, Motors, and Turbines by Alfred Morgan. I entered it in the grade school science fair and won first place.

Very simple, worked great.
